A plenary session on “Heydar Aliyev and Interreligious harmony in Azerbaijan” was held as part of the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
Organized by Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Religious Associations and Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, the session was moderated by Aytan Gahraman, Counselor at Baku International Multiculturalism Centre.
Speakers at the event included Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Head of the Caucasian Muslims` Board, Kamal Abdullayev, Azerbaijan`s State Counselor on Multiculturalism, Interethnic and Religious Affairs, Mubariz Gurbanli, Chairman to the State Committee on Religious Associations, Juan Carlos Mendez, Pastor of Centro Cristiano Bet-El a Southern Baptist Church, Teresa Damasio, Director, International Relations Department at the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technologies, Aleksandr Nesterov, Professor, Head of the Department of European Studies, Institute of Social and Political Sciences, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, Head of Yekaterinburg branch of Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, and Aurelia Grigoriu, Lawyer, Head of the branch of Baku International Multiculturalism Center in Moldova.
In his remarks, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade noted that Azerbaijan has shown the world that it is possible to build a harmonious society based on religious and cultural diversity and this ideology is able to live.
Azerbaijan`s State Counselor on Multiculturalism, Interethnic and Religious Affairs Kamal Abdullayev said multicultural environment has historically existed in Azerbaijan.
